I wonder where you live. I think a lot of what you describe I have felt too and it’s mostly due to class differences. I’m 45. My biological son is 11. I have two stepsons, 9 & 13. I always felt like I didn’t relate to most of the moms on the playgrounds in Brooklyn and often it was because they were upper middle class (whereas I identify as working class). It could have also been that I am a lesbian — and most parents I met were straight. Btwn class and sexuality, they had different concerns, values, and interests than I had. It took me a while to find my people. Also in NYC it’s not that uncommon to have inter-generational friendships. They can be really good. One of my best friends is in her early 60s and i have friends who are in their 20s and 30s We may not have a ton in common but we love learning from each other.
